Welcome to The Black House

Live from the Black House began as a place for conversation. But the vision was always larger than a podcast. The podcast is one room. The community is the house. This is where the conversations we begin in the studio continue after the cameras stop. It is where the people we meet at dinners, watch parties, live tapings and civic gatherings can stay connected. The Black House is a gathering place for the people, ideas and conversations shaping Houston. It is a place to talk honestly, disagree intelligently, laugh loudly, build real relationships and imagine something larger together. I’m Durrell K. Douglas, a Houston native, organizer, producer and storyteller. I created The Black House because Houston needed a place where politics, culture, business, creativity and community could sit at the same table. You are not joining an audience. You are entering the conversation. Introduce yourself: What is your name? What part of Houston, or what community, do you claim? What work, idea or issue matters deeply to you? What conversation should happen inside The Black House? And if you are joining us for the A Different World Houston Watch Party , tell us now: What karaoke song are you claiming? We will also have trivia, games and a few surprises. Upcoming gatherings A Different World Houston Watch Party Friday, October 9 RSVP: https://blackhousevibes.com/ Inside the Work A public-service careers dinner presented by the Houston Civic Institute Thursday, October 22 RSVP: https://houstoncivic.org/inside-the-work The conversations will happen in the studio. They will happen around dinner tables, in packed rooms, online and wherever Houston gathers. This is the place where all of those rooms become one. This is The Black House. Welcome home.

The Black House Community

The episode ends. The conversation doesn’t. Talk Houston politics, culture, community, and the stories behind the headlines.
